Gaeta lies in the middle of "Riviera di Ulisse". It is a splendid
seaside town of naturalistic and landscape beauties with many historical,
religious and monumental testimonies.
The hypotheses on the origin of the name are different.
In the Aeneid, Virgil talked about "Cajeta" Aeneas's nursing
mother who died here.
According to Strabone, the origin of the name derives from "Kaiàdas"
or "Kaiètas", (cave).
On a promontory almost completely surrounded by the sea, there is
the "Urban Park of Monte Orlando", dated to 1986. The lock
of surronding sea is "Oasi blu" and is managed by the WWF
for scientific and educational purposes.
The rest of the town stretches through tipical medieval lanes and
streets, a wide castle, Roman monuments, historical churches and many
wonderful beaches.
